Subject: Petition: High Bus Fares for Polytechnic students
Dear all,
Petition: High Bus Fares for Polytechnic students
There is a petition started by a Polytechnic student, asking the Bus Companies to revise the fares for Poly students. Currently the Poly students are paying much higher. This is because the Polytechnic is classified under Tertiary Education, but it is not for the Junior Colleges (JCs) and Institute of Technical Education (ITE).
As a Poly student myself, I feel that it is unfair that SBS Transit and SMRT are charging the Poly students almost double for the bus and train concessions when compared to those in the JCs and ITE.
If you feel that it is unfair and biased that the Bus Companies are charging us higher, please sign this petition:

all i can comment is HAH! do you think you're the only underprivileged one? that its unfair that you pay more than JC and ITE students? then can you please take a look at us students at private schools.
dont give the crap excuse of 'you rich kid ma'. believe me, if that were the case, these schools would cease to exist because more than likely about 1 out of 10 students actually have 'rich daddies'. a friend of mine has to work full time and study part time, slogging his guts out because he was denied a further education in singapore schools. and so, he pays through the nose for a degree just so he could get a better job in the future.
the thing is the moment you go over to private school, the government pretends A) you either dont exist in the school system or B) you have 'betrayed' singapore and gone over to foreign schools.
most of us have no choice because despite working hard or not-at-all for O/A levels/Poly, we did not recieve the required grade to continue elsewhere or, like me, did not get what i wanted.
sadly i also pay adult fare now because private schools dont qualify as any sort of education on an ez-link. seriously it sucks. we dont get perks. you can complain about bus fare but how about when you go to a movie or restaurants or fast food places that offer discounts to students? we certainly dont have that privilege. oh by the way, neither do we get heavily subsidised diplomas or degrees. we pay top dollar because we have no other choice and not because we want to.
so again Mister/Miss Temasek Business School. before you complain, look at others too. you're outraged at paying adult fare but did you notice this? that your school food is probably cheaper/ serves bigger portions? correct me if i'm wrong but i heard that temasek has a canteen run by the culinary students and for a three course meal, you pay the amount you usually pay for one dish in a hawker centre?
if you still insist on paying student fares, why not include us private school students? or are we seen are scum of the earth to you too? believe or not, we are all rejects from JCs so there's no reason for you to look down on us either.
